Sponsorship vs Mentorship

Mentors advise (“here’s what I would do”). Sponsors advocate (“let me put your name forward for this opportunity”). Both are valuable; sponsorship is rarer and more impactful for career advancement. Senior engineers should actively sponsor underrepresented colleagues.
