Mutex Plus Condition Variables

A monitor combines a mutex (for mutual exclusion) with condition variables (for waiting and signaling). Java’s synchronized blocks implement monitors, where wait() releases the lock and blocks, and notify()/notifyAll() wake waiting threads.
